Ethics in Medical Interpreting: Boundaries, Best Practices, and Real‑World Decisions
Presented by: Joumana De Santiago
Presentation Overview:
Ethics in Medical Interpreting: Boundaries, Best Practices, and Real‑World Decisions
This webinar offers a practical, case‑based refresher on medical interpreting ethics and core professional behaviors that support patient‑centered care. Participants will explore common ethical challenges interpreters face in healthcare settings, including role boundaries, confidentiality, impartiality, managing pace and flow, and navigating requests that fall outside the interpreter’s role. The session will also reinforce everyday best practices, such as pre‑session preparation, maintaining direct clinician‑patient communication, and interpreting everything that is said, to promote accuracy and trust. Real‑world scenarios will be used to help interpreters apply ethical decision‑making in fast‑paced clinical environments.
