The ATA Certification Exam: What It Is and How to Prepare for It

PRESENTED BY – Certification Committee Chair David Stephenson, CT, and

Certification Committee Deputy Chair Holly Mikkelson, CT

In the first part, David will discuss the certification exam in general: the nature of the exam, passage selection criteria, standards for grading the exam, and how the exam is administered. In part two, both presenters will provide tips on how translators can prepare for the exam and improve their chances of success. In the third part, Holly will review the error categories and provide examples of the most frequent errors in the Spanish>English combination. Although the examples will be in Spanish, they will be explained in English and may be of interest to translators in other language pairs.
