NSC's Language Access and Proficiency Program
For over ninety years, Nationalities Service Center (NSC) has provided interpretation and translation, social, educational, senior, and legal services to immigrants and refugees in the Greater Philadelphia Area. Each year, we assist approximately 5,000 individuals from more than ninety countries who speak over 150 languages.
In the mid-1970s, NSC recognized the importance of language access and the provision of culturally and linguistically appropriate services, and founded the Interpretation and Translation Department (I&T). In 2014, our teams identified numerous opportunities for streamlined collaboration between our education program and I&T — executive leadership merged the two departments and implemented a reinvigorated plan to deliver and advocate for language access. We are now the Language Access and Proficiency Program!
Today, we are a full-service language service provider, well equipped to provide a full range of services to government agencies, nonprofits, the legal and education systems, and privately owned companies across a wide array of industries — including medical, long-term care, pharmaceutical, tech, market research and advertising. Our clients include Genesis HealthCare, The City of Philadelphia, Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA), United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW), Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC), Health Federation of Philadelphia, American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), Senior Law Center, Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA), and many more!
